plainlyYouTube thumbnail grabber
Paste a video link. Download its thumbnail.
Download a YouTube
thumbnail.
This free YouTube thumbnail downloader saves the image that represents a video. Paste the video link above and select Get thumbnail. The largest available image is selected for you. Choose another size if you need a smaller file, then select Download JPG to save it.
Video links, Shorts, and live streams
Use a regular YouTube watch link, a shortened youtu.be link, or a link to a Short or live stream. Links with a timestamp also work. A playlist link needs to include a specific video; a channel page does not identify a video thumbnail.
What a thumbnail grabber downloads
A thumbnail grabber saves the still image used as a video’s cover. Use it to retrieve your own cover image, review a design, or prepare a reference. To save the video itself or extract frames, you need a different tool.
The image size
you actually get.
The tool checks each image and shows its actual dimensions. A 1280 × 720 HD thumbnail is available for some videos. Other common sizes include 640 × 480, 480 × 360, and 320 × 180. If the largest size is missing, the best available smaller image is selected instead.
No stretching or added watermark
The JPG keeps the available image’s dimensions and proportions. Black bars or marks already in the thumbnail remain in the download. Plainly does not enlarge a small image or add a watermark.
When a thumbnail cannot be found
Check that you copied a link to one video and that the video opens on YouTube. Private, removed, or restricted videos may have no accessible thumbnail. A temporary connection problem can also prevent the image from loading; try the link again.
Good questions.
Straight answers.
Is this YouTube thumbnail grabber free?
Yes. Preview the available images and download a JPG without creating an account.
How do I download a YouTube thumbnail in HD?
Paste the video link and select Get thumbnail. If a 1280 × 720 image is available, it appears as the best available size. Select Download JPG. Not every video has an HD thumbnail.
Can I download a YouTube Shorts thumbnail?
Yes, if an image is available for that Short. Paste its youtube.com/shorts/ link. The preview and size selector show the image provided for it; a portrait image is not guaranteed.
Can I save the thumbnail on my phone?
Yes. Use the same link field and Download JPG button. Depending on your browser, the image is saved to Downloads or opens a save prompt.
Can I reuse another creator’s thumbnail?
Downloading an image does not grant permission to republish it. Use your own thumbnails or ask the creator before using their image in your work.
