A word puzzle.
Another whenever you want.

This free Wordle game gives you six attempts to discover a five-letter English word. Type on your keyboard or tap the letters above, then press Enter to submit a guess. Each completed row stays on the board so you can compare the clues.

Read the colors

A green tile means the letter is in the correct position. A yellow tile means the answer contains that letter in a different position. A gray tile means there is no unused occurrence of that letter in the answer. The on-screen keyboard keeps the strongest clue for every letter you have tried.

Repeated letters count

An answer can contain the same letter more than once. If you guess a letter twice but the answer contains it only once, one tile can be green or yellow while the other is gray. Correct positions are matched first.

Choose New word for another puzzle. Your current game can be restored when you reload in the same browser. Once a game ends, Copy result shares the colored grid without revealing the answer.

Make each
guess useful.

A first guess with several different common letters can reveal more than a guess that repeats a letter. After that, keep green letters in place and try yellow letters in other positions. A gray letter may still appear elsewhere only when your guess used more copies than the answer contains.

This is an independent unlimited practice game, with its own selection of words. It does not use the New York Times daily answer. For that separate puzzle, open Wordle hints today. The practice game accepts five-letter words from its English word list; acceptance can differ from other games.

Good questions.
Straight answers.

Can I play Wordle more than once a day?

Yes. Choose New word whenever you want another practice puzzle. There is no daily limit.

Is this the official NYT Wordle?

No. Plainly offers an independent practice game. The official daily game is available from the New York Times.

Why is my five-letter guess rejected?

A guess needs to appear in the English word list. Names, abbreviations, and some newer or regional terms may be missing.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. Use the on-screen letter buttons, Enter, and the delete key. A physical keyboard works too.
