Let chance choose

Animal ideas for drawing, writing, and games

Choose one animal for a quick sketch or a charades round. Generate three for a story about unlikely companions. For a classroom activity, pick a group and ask students to compare the animals they recognize. The tool supplies names, leaving the research or creative work to you.

Choose an animal group

The list includes 84 mammals, 46 birds, 29 reptiles, 22 amphibians, 36 fish, and 44 invertebrates. Invertebrates include insects, spiders, and animals such as octopuses and starfish. Names mix specific animals and familiar groups, such as tiger and butterfly; this is an idea list, not a complete species catalog.

No repeats within your list

Each name in the selected pool has the same chance of being picked. Once a name is chosen, it is removed from the remaining choices for that batch. Generating again starts with the full pool, so an animal from an earlier batch can return. With All animals selected, names have equal chances; the six groups have different numbers of entries and are not equally likely.

Good questions.
Straight answers.

How do I generate just one random animal?

Set Number of animals to 1 and press Generate animals. Keep All animals selected for the widest choice, or pick a group such as birds.

Can I generate several animals without duplicates?

Yes. Choose up to 12 animals. Each name appears at most once in that batch. A new batch can include names you have seen before.

Does this generate pictures or made-up animals?

No. It generates names from a fixed list of real animals and familiar animal groups. Use the names as prompts for your own drawings, games, or research.

Are dolphins and whales in the fish group?

No. Dolphins and whales are mammals. They appear in Mammals. Sharks, rays, and seahorses appear in Fish.

Does it work on a phone, and is my list saved?

Yes, it works in a current mobile browser. The generator runs on your device. It does not upload or save your generated lists; reloading the page brings back the examples. Copy your names if you want to keep them.
