Keep transparency and dimensions

PNG supports transparent pixels, so a transparent AVIF can remain transparent after conversion. The image keeps its width and height; this tool does not resize it. The checkerboard behind the preview helps you see transparent areas and is not included in the downloaded image.

Why use PNG instead of AVIF?

AVIF often stores photos efficiently, but some workflows still require PNG. PNG is useful for screenshots, graphics, and images with transparent backgrounds. It uses lossless compression for the converted pixels, which can produce a larger file than the original AVIF.

Conversion does not restore lost detail

If an AVIF was compressed with a lossy setting, exporting it as PNG cannot recover information already removed. This converter saves the decoded image in PNG format. It does not promise preservation of HDR, wide-gamut color, or embedded metadata, and animated AVIF sequences are not supported.

When an image cannot convert

A file must actually contain an AVIF image. Changing a .jpg or .heic extension to .avif does not convert it. A damaged file or a browser that cannot open AVIF will show an error. Try a current browser and check that the original file opens correctly.

To keep conversion manageable, images are limited to 25 megapixels, with neither side above 16,384 pixels. Converted downloads in one selection are limited to 50 MB. For a smaller photo file without transparency, try the AVIF to JPG converter.
